This is part of the #Dungeon23 challenge in which you make one room to a dungeon every day for a year. In an effort to link my memories to the creation, I am also writing a personal journal entry with each room that may or may not be related.
You don’t have to read that part.

A Natural stone bridge sits 60 feet above a small lake.

The lake is fed by a waterfall on the northern wall, and it empties into a smaller lake to the south, which is C4.

The stone bridge is covered in snails. Hundreds of them, with shelves the size of baseballs.

One with the appropriate background may recognize that these snails are a rare variety prized by the Royal Family.

This bridge worth of snails could be a fortune.

However, keeping the snails alive could prove difficult as they require a lot of love and attention when removed from their natural habitat. These delicate snails don’t react well to stress and will die of heart attacks.

Basically you gotta coddle these fuckers all the way back to civilization where you need to find a buyer. It’s a problem and only you can come up with a solution.

Cutting it close. Had a long day cleaning and painting walls.

The snail treasure hoard is a very Bastionland kind of treasure. I’m referring to Electric Bastionland, which was the game we used for the first season of our podcast. The book is really invaluable for game masters. It really changed the way I looked at designing challenges and encounters for my players.

The idea is to not just have a treasure in a room that is obtained by beating a boss or finding a secret door(often through a die roll). Instead make the treasure itself the puzzle.

I did this on the first floor with the gold plates on the chains. I have no answer when I create these problems, but I love watching my players try to come up with a solution.

That’s all I got for today. Sleep, some more work in the morning and then I leave Chicago again.

See you tomorrow.
