This is part of the #Dungeon23 challenge in which you make one room to a dungeon every day for a year. In an effort to link my memories to the creation, I am also writing a personal journal entry with each room that may or may not be related.
You don’t have to read that part.

C9.

A map using the DungeonScrawl website. Check it out.

The floor slopes up this narrow passage, away from the eel pool that lies to the west.

Halfway down the hall towards C10, your torchlight begins to reflect metal veins in the stone walls around you.

The deeper you move the more they seem to pulse.

A hum is audible and will be irritating to the adventurers.

At the eastern end of the corridor is a wall of metal. Strange runes are cleanly engraved near the top, though what they say is unclear. They can only discern that whatever engraved them was very skillful, utilizing some kind of metal engraving technique not currently known.

Regardless this appears to be a metal barrier and penetrating is nearly impossible.

But hey, players might get imaginative here.

3/9/23

I thought about it, and I don’t think I have many dead ends.

Most of my maps feature loops so that whatever path you’re on usually takes you somewhere, even if it’s back to where you started. Though I usually interconnect my loops in the big picture, players can see how they could have approached the level differently and it would matter.

This is a sort of dead end - and it might be cruel after the players just made it through the eel pool. Unless they can figure out some kind of bomb to blow open this wall they’ll have to do it again and find another way.

Of course… they could always surprise us and blow open this wall.

But really my hope is that it inspires the players to try and figure it out. I want them to map where it was and see if further exploration tells them more about what they saw.

As you can see there are three passages that ultimately lead to C10, and there will be a way in using one of them.

So what’s in C10?

See you tomorrow.
