C14.
This is part of the #Dungeon23 challenge in which you make one room to a dungeon every day for a year. In an effort to link my memories to the creation, I am also writing a personal journal entry with each room that may or may not be related.
You don’t have to read that part.
C14.
The walls in this room are covered in a yellow-green moss. The floor is spongy and quite comfortable.
There are a couple of moss-covered mounds in the room.
A keen eye may see some glimmer of silver reflecting torchlight in the mounds.
An even keener eye may see the bones under that silver object.
Every step on the floor causes the moss to emit a sweet-smelling chemical that makes you feel euphoric. Maybe you lay down on that comfy floor…… forever. The moss will grow over you and slowly break down your fleshy parts.
But maybe you want to search that mound…
Treasure: A gnarled, decomposed body still has a silvered sword. Etched on the blade is a named Wind Slayer.
Wind Slayer.
This sword causes the wearer to move more quickly.
It is a named weapon and studying it allows you to perform special techniques utilizing it’s main trait - in this case: speed.
Example: You can use this weapon to flash past an opponent while making a slash. This allows you to cover a distance, hit your opponent and end a distance away in one action.
Is it possible you can learn how to walk on the fucking wind with this sword? Yes. But you gotta practice, my guy.

Great day today. Saw an old friend I hadn’t seen in years and it was just like no time had passed. Went to the park. Played with her kids, whom I haven’t even really met before today. Had some good Mexican food. Just a very pleasant day.
…
Okay. The Wind Slayer gimmick.
Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 had this cool gimmick of Legacy weapons. They were basically magic items that became better as you leveled up, or did certain item-specific quests. It’s a great idea, but I think it was held back by mechanical limitations. I’m not really sure exactly why it wasn’t used in something like 5e. It seems way more suited for that system.
In fact, I did it for a game I ran, and my player enjoyed it very much.
So I was thinking about introducing a magic weapon like that here, but perhaps give the player more room to invent the Technique they discover with the weapon. I’m still rattling it around in my head, but the idea could be like, earning bracers of super strength, and then figuring out some kind of Heroic Feat or Technique you can achieve with that item. Like a Thunderclap maneuver. Or punching the ground and creating a mini-earthquake. But I’d like for the player to maybe have a little more input on what it is. Spend some time training these skills and maybe you can perform the Technique.
That’s the idea anyway.
See you tomorrow.
