A7.

This is part of the #Dungeon23 challenge in which you make one room to a dungeon every day for a year. In an effort to link my memories to the creation, I am also writing a personal journal entry with each room that may or may not be related.
You don’t have to read that part.

TRAP!

Between rooms A4 and A7 there is a trap/encounter

Midway down the corridor the ground slops into a pool of water that extends about 15 feet. Depending on the system you’re using you might want to change it to a distance that is difficult for your players to jump over. So in 5e that might be 50 feet or whatever.

There are hand holds hidden along the walls, that will take a keen eye to find in the dim light. Using these handholds will leave the adventurer unarmed and possibly prone to spear attacks from the Trogdar Warriors in A7

Should the adventurers wade into the pool because they’re in a rush or because they “just don’t give a fuck,” they will 100% encounter the Cephalocor at the bottom of the pool. It’s a tentacled beast that has the strength to restrain an adventurer, and could feasibly suck the soft bits out of their face.

Fighting the Cephalocor could be trouble, as the loud splashing will alert any unaware Trogs in room A4 or A7. It might restrain the explorers so the Trogdars can get their shot in. It’s a mess.

Past this corridor is A7, a cave room filled with stalagmites and three Trogdar Warriors with spears and slings. If they know you’re coming they’ll hide in the shadows and pick at you. You might want to hide too. Or get the hell out of here.

Beyond this room is the Trogdar camp that sits beside this underground river.

And beyond that… Kik’ina Kir.

1/7/23

Last night was Date Night.

During lockdown, when we were stuck inside with out kids, Gail and I decided that one night a week we would get a Date Night. The kids would go back in one of their rooms to watch TV, while we watched movies and had the living room to ourselves.

Date Night generally consisted of watching The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder. We’d watch a double feature with Joe Bob and Darcy The Mail Girl and all the other Mutants in the world, while drinking lots of beer and doing the occasional crossword puzzle. It was fucking awesome.

Between seasons of the show, we’d fill the void and take turns hosting our own double feature. Each week one of us would pick two movies, research them, and present them just like Joe Bob did on the show.

Movies are really important to me. They’re sacred like religious artifacts. I love that Gail shares that passion for movies with me. There’s nothing better than watching a movie with her and talking about it after.

Last night she kinda improvised and hit me with the movie 9 to 5 (with Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, & Jane Fonda). She followed that up with The Menu, only because she just realized it was on HBO Max. So it wasn’t some planned out affair (like this dungeon!) but it was no less entertaining.

Even if the movies were bad, it wouldn’t have mattered, because it would still be time spent with the person I love, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

I wrote more about each movie, but Firefox keeps crashing on me, and it’s killing me.

So I’ll leave you with this.

Dolly Parton is fucking awesome.

&

Hong Chau in The Menu is fucking awesome. She gives one of the greatest deliveries of a line I’ll hear all year.

“You’ll eat less than you desire and more than you deserve. “

Cold blooded.

See you tomorrow.
